The Grounding Circle is an outdoor meditation gathering for people who use the word spiritual to describe themselves, who are seeking a community that knows each other at a soul level, and want a reprieve from the daily onslaught of noise and busyness.
The overarching goal is to build a circle of trust with each other and with mother earth. We believe that making a deep connection to the land is a key element in exciting people to climate justice action. We hope you will join us to sit in silence, breathe, and let your cares fall away as you ground into mother earth and community.
The Setting
The Grounding Circle meets rain or shine on the last Saturday of the month from 10:30am-12pm at Trout Lake Park on unceded territories of txʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations. The willow tree we sit under is on the west side of the lake, near the dog beach. We welcome each other to the circle, sit quietly, and then share if called.

The Inspiration
The Grounding Circle is inspired by the Prayer Circle which started in July 2018 out of a desire for a spiritually grounded response to the threat posed by the Trans Mountain pipeline and tanker expansion project. The Prayer Circle Action Group continues to meet on the second Saturday of the month from 10:30am-12pm at Kwekwecnewtxw, the Watch House on Burnaby Mountain.
The goals of the Prayer Circle Action Group are:
- to stay grounded in love, as we witness all that we are here to protect.
- to support and/or engage in peaceful, spiritually-rooted direct action.
- to raise awareness of the emergency we are in with regards to climate, Indigenous rights, and biodiversity.
- to inspire and motivate others to act, and to galvanize support.
- to help move things toward a tipping point, resulting in cancelation of the earth-harming projects.
